In a vibrant show of unity and respect, the Guild Of Online Media Editors And Publishers (GOMEP) Nigeria has extended warm felicitations to its Muslim members in celebration of the 2025 Eid el Fitri. The organization, known for its commitment to fostering professional growth and ethical journalism, penned a heartfelt message that underscored the importance of cultural inclusivity and community solidarity.

In a statement jointly signed by the body’s National President, Dr. Dozie Nwankodu, and the Secretary, Comrd. Otiti Treasure Akpovoke, and released to newsmen by the Spokesman, Edem Dominic, the group urged the Muslim members to reflect on the significance of Eid-el Fitri as a time to be more committed to their spiritual growth, peace building and professionalism, noting that the media is the conscience of the people.

The statement reads in parts:

“As the crescent moon signaled the end of Ramadan and our Muslim members gathered in a celebratory atmosphere, in their respective places, we urge everyone of them to be thoughtful and reflect on the significance of self-discipline, spiritual growth, and community bonding that Ramadan and Eid el Fitri represent, while ensuring that media ethics is also upheld to reflect truth at all times”.

The group expressed their gratitude for the invaluable contributions made by their Muslim colleagues and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to upholding diversity in the media landscape.

GOMEP Nigeria also emphasized that the celebration of Eid is not only a religious observance but also a time for all members of the community to reflect on shared values such as peace, empathy, and cooperation. “Our diversity is our strength. By recognizing and celebrating these moments, we enrich our professional community and reinforce our commitment to ethical and inclusive journalism”, the statement further read.

In bridging professional excellence with cultural respect GOMEP Nigeria harped on how cultural awareness can enhance editorial practice in today’s dynamic digital environment, highlighting that stories of celebration, resilience, and community service not only reflect the spirit of Eid, but also serve as a powerful reminder of the responsibilities that come with media influence.

The body further encouraged all members —regardless of their personal backgrounds—to continue advocating for responsible media practices that honor both truth and diversity.

According to GOMEP Nigeria, plans are under way for inclusive initiatives within the media industry for regular events and workshops that emphasize cross-cultural dialogue and professional development, ensuring that every voice in the Nigerian media community is both heard and celebrated.
