No Zoning of 2027 Presidential Ticket
The Labour Party has dismissed claims that it has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South-East.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, clarified that no such decision had been made.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ifoh was responding to widespread rumors suggesting that the party had reserved the ticket for the South-East region.
Statement Misinterpreted
Ifoh explained that a comment made by the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, had been taken out of context.
He referred to Abure’s statement titled “2027: Labour Party Still Available for Ndigbo to Realize Presidency”, clarifying that it did not imply any zoning arrangement.
According to Ifoh, Abure merely encouraged some South-East members, stating that the Igbo could still achieve the presidency if they remained united and built alliances with other groups.
Labour Party Maintains National Stance
The Labour Party emphasized its commitment to a national outlook, asserting that it does not zone positions to any particular region or individual.
Ifoh reaffirmed that the party has a strong presence across the country, with significant electoral victories in both northern and southern states during the 2023 general elections.
“Our candidates will always emerge through democratic and competitive processes, as the party’s constitution does not permit zoning,” he stated.
Media Misinterpretation and Public Response
The party expressed regret over the misrepresentation of its stance by some media outlets. However, Ifoh noted that the overwhelming public reaction to the misinformation demonstrated the trust Nigerians have in the Labour Party.
“The concerns raised by Nigerians show their deep interest in the party’s future and their willingness to support its mission to reposition the country and restore true democracy,” he added.

Ifoh urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support for the Labour Party as it prepares for the challenges ahead.
He reassured the public that the party remains committed to democratic principles and will continue to work towards building a better Nigeria.
